Hong Kong’s Insurance Authority (IA) on Tuesday, 23 Jan, announced the Government appointment of Clement Lau as its new Executive Director for Policy and Legislation. Lau will serve a three-year term in this role, effective immediately and concluding in January 2027.

He steps into the position with a track record in public administration and financial supervision and will oversee a range of critical functions within the IA, including the coordination of corporate planning, reviewing and refining of legislative frameworks and regulatory instruments, and engagement with industry stakeholders.

Lau will also lead research and public education efforts and develop policies and initiatives aimed at promoting Hong Kong as a leading insurance hub, the IA said.

Chairman of the IA, Stephen Yiu, expressed strong support for the new appointment, commenting, “Mr Lau is an ideal candidate to take up this senior position and contribute towards fulfilling our statutory functions.” He added that Lau’s involvement would “add vitality and strength to the management team in the IA.”

The search for two other Executive Directors, responsible for Long Term Business and General Business, is also underway and progressing well, with the outcomes of recruitment efforts likely to be announced soon, the IA said.
