The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) on Tuesday (3 Sep) released the Insurance Industry Talent Roadmap, a comprehensive six-year strategy for drawing in and retaining skilled workers to meet the insurance sector’s current and future demands.
Doubling as a report, the roadmap aims to address crucial workforce challenges, including talent shortages, the impact of climate change on insurers’ workloads, the need to reach diverse talent pools, and an ageing workforce, with around 30% expected to reach retirement age by 2030.
The Roadmap builds on the ICA’s broader Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, highlighting the importance of creating an inclusive environment that can appeal to a wide range of candidates. The strategy emphasises the need to attract talent while fostering a culture where diverse employees can thrive, thereby leveraging innovation and resilience in the industry.
Additionally, the strategy calls for ongoing collaboration between industry stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of its strategies, with a focus on long-term sustainability and growth.

Chief Executive Officer at the ICATo support these goals, the ICA announced that it is launching an advertising campaign titled “It’s our policy” in Queensland and New South Wales. This campaign features real insurance professionals, highlighting the diverse and meaningful career opportunities within the sector and demonstrating the industry’s commitment to DEI principles.
“This Roadmap provides a framework, supported by practical and insightful tools, to help insurers work collectively but independently towards our goal of becoming the industry of choice for new and experienced talent,” said Andrew Hall, ICA’s Chief Executive Officer, introducing the report.
We will achieve this by building a stronger and more resilient workforce equipped with the diverse skills needed to address the business and talent challenges of the future and ensure our industry reflects the diversity of identities, background, skills and experiences of the communities that we serve,” he added.
