Gallagher Re has announced the appointment of Jonathan Allard as the Managing Director and Head of its newly established Global Credit & Political Risk team.

In his new role, Allard will unite the expertise of the London and global teams to develop the global reinsurance broker’s offering across credit and political risk, providing clients with access to both treaty and facultative solutions.

Allard will also work closely with Jim Latorre, the head of the North American Surety team, to enhance the business’s surety offering worldwide.

Allard brings an abundance of experience to his new position, having specialised in credit, surety and political risk since the beginning of his career. Prior to joining Gallagher Re, he was RenaissanceRe’s Vice President of Underwriting, where he was responsible for managing and underwriting credit, surety and political risk reinsurance, as well as the structured credit portfolio accounts on European and Lloyd’s balance sheets.

Prior, he spent nearly 10 years at Willis Re, before its acquisition by Gallagher, where he held positions including Executive Director and Divisional Director across broking credit, surety, and political risk.

Recent geopolitical events and macro-economic conditions have driven demand and need for dynamic reinsurance solutions from both the public and private sectors.

Speaking on Allard’s appointment, Tony Melia, CEO of International at Gallagher Re, said, “Jonathan’s breadth of experience combining both broker and reinsurer perspectives equips him brilliantly to lead our global product proposition in this area of ever-changing risk.”

He added, “The creation of a new global leadership role in such a specialised line of business highlights our commitment to leveraging the strength of Gallagher Re for our clients, regardless of where they are in the world.”

Explaining why he took the role, Allard commented, “Recent geopolitical events and macro-economic conditions have driven demand and need for dynamic reinsurance solutions from both the public and private sectors. This is an exciting opportunity to join a global reinsurance broker whose focus is firmly on delivering exceptional client value and growing a sustainable market, and I’m looking forward to working with my many colleagues around the world to deliver just that.”

In a related development, Gallagher Re also announced that Mark Jenkins, who has been with the business since December 2021, will also take on the role of Chairman of the Global Credit & Political Risk team.
