Labuan Re redesignates Ibrahim as CEO, names Karim as Acting Head of Underwriting

Labuan Reinsurance on Tuesday announced that Zaid Aziz Ibrahim had been redesignated to the role of Chief Executive Officer and Principal Officer, with Melissa Karim becoming Acting Head of Underwriting.

Ibrahim has been with Labuan Re since 2020 and in January was appointed as Officer-In-Charge. Prior, he was Chief Underwriting Officer and Senior Vice President at the reinsurer. Before joining the firm, he worked in senior underwriting and leadership positions for companies such as QBE Malaysia, Allianz Re Singapore, and Asia Capital Reinsurance Group.

Karim has been with Labuan Re since 2023 and had been serving as Vice President, tasked to lead the company’s Casualty, Financial Lines, and MGA Division.

Karim has extensive industry experience across underwriting and broking for firms, including AIG Malaysia, Marsh, CIMB, and ACR Malaysia.
