Markel Insurance has appointed Henry Ang as head of terrorism, Singapore, effective immediately, the insurer announced on Thursday.
Ang joins from Everest, where he was Head of Political Violence & Terrorism, Asia. He brings more than a decade of underwriting experience in terrorism and political violence across APAC, as well as property underwriting expertise.
In his new role, Ang will lead the growth and development of Markel’s Political Violence and Terrorism (PVT) portfolio in Asia-Pacific. He reports to Wanshi Lin, head of Singapore, and will work alongside Rahul Shah, head of war and terrorism in MENA, and Rahul Gaglani, war and terrorism underwriter in India.
Sucheng Chang, managing director for Asia Pacific, notes that political violence and terrorism risks are becoming harder for clients to assess as geopolitical tensions and civil unrest create a more complex and unpredictable environment across the region.
“As we continue to grow our presence in the region, building dedicated capability in PVT is key to supporting our clients and developing this portfolio further,” Chang said. “Henry’s appointment strengthens our ability to deliver that expertise in APAC.”
Lin added that Henry’s extensive property underwriting experience and non-Lloyd’s background gives Markel a “distinct advantage” in positioning its offering in the market. “We can now leverage the Lloyd’s network and his unique capabilities while bringing fresh perspective and approach.”
Ang’s appointment comes amid a period of strategic growth for Markel, which launched its fine art and specie unit in Australia, hiring Matt Stock to lead the unit. Earlier this year, the specialty player also tapped John Bang as its first head of Korea and Japan.
