MS Amlin plans to open a new branch in Sydney, Australia, pending Lloyd’s approval, as part of its Asia Pacific Reinsurance business (MS Amlin Pacific Pte. Ltd), the global specialty (re)insurer announced on Monday.
MS Amlin also announced the appointment of Matt Botfield as Head of Australia and New Zealand. He joins after two decades with Aon and served as Chief Operating Officer for Greater China and CEO of Alternate Insurance Authority Hong Kong at Aon Reinsurance China since 2016.
In his new role, Botfield will manage the existing client portfolio and broker relationships in Australia and New Zealand as well as oversee new business development in the region, MS Amlin said.
Will Ho
CEO of MS Amlin APAC“We’re excited to expand our presence in the Asia Pacific region, with the launch of a dedicated branch in Australia, where we see significant untapped potential,” said Will Ho, CEO of MS Amlin APAC.
“Matt’s appointment highlights our ambition to grow in this dynamic region and secure new high quality business including domestic risks that typically wouldn’t come into Lloyd’s,” he added.
The new branch will support MS Amlin’s growth agenda in the Asia Pacific market, where the company already offers reinsurance solutions across various product lines, including casualty, property, and speciality covers.
These solutions are available through conventional reinsurance structures and the Phoenix series ILS offering, which was renewed for the fifth time in January, seeing its sidecar capacity expanded to US$90m (story below).
