India-based Niyam Group has appointed Babita Rai as global head of international business, the company said on Friday.
She was previously chief executive and executive director of Tysers Singapore, a role she held until June. Before that she spent two and a half years at JB Boda Group in Singapore, including as general manager.
She brings more than two decades of experience across international reinsurance markets and will promote awareness of Niyam’s capabilities and the broader opportunities available through GIFT City.
“From the beginning, our ambition has been clear: to build Niyam as an Indian business serving India and other high-growth markets of Asia and Africa,” the company said on LinkedIn. “Babita’s appointment represents another important step towards making that ambition a reality.”
The company added that it sees GIFT City becoming “not simply a platform serving India, but an Indian platform capable of becoming a global hub for international reinsurance”.
Rai’s hire is the latest in a series of appointments at Niyam, which last month named Aditi Chaturvedi as director, actuarial and in August hired Lovenish Kumar as director of operations for Syndicate 2047.
Niyam launched in January under founder and CEO Bobby Swarup. In March, its Syndicate 2047 received Lloyd’s approval and J.C. Flowers & Co. agreed to take a controlling stake in the group. The syndicate began underwriting on 1 April.
