Prudential plc has announced the appointment of Mark Saunders as a Non-executive Director, effective 1 April 2024, as part of a series of Board and committee changes.
Saunders, a qualified actuary with 35 years of industry experience, will also join the Audit and Risk Committees. He has dedicated more than three decades to the insurance sector in Hong Kong, including his time on the executive committee of AIA Group Ltd as Chief Strategy and Corporate Development Officer from 2014 to 2022. Prior, he spent over 16 years at Tillinghast, now WTW, leading actuarial appraisals across Asia Pacific before becoming the leader of its Hong Kong business.
Prudential also announced that Jeanette Wong will become Chair of Prudential’s Audit Committee from 20 March 2024, following the release of the Group’s full-year results for 2023. Wong has been part of the Audit Committee since her Board induction in May 2021.
Wong assumes the role as David Law is set to retire from the board following the insurer’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 23 May 2024. Law has been a member of Prudential’s Board since September 2015 and Chair of the Audit Committee since May 2017.
Prudential also announced that Shriti Vadera, Chair of Prudential plc, will become a member of the Remuneration Committee at the conclusion of its upcoming AGM.
Vadera expressed enthusiasm for Saunders’ appointment, commenting, “He brings deep experience of the insurance industry in our key markets, and his blend of commercial insight and actuarial skills and experience will be a great asset to the Board and to the Audit and Risk Committees.”
She also paid tribute to Law’s contribution, “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank him for his immense contribution to the Board, in particular through his leadership of the Audit Committee for the past seven years.”
