Roy Nakazawa appointed as WTW’s Head of Japan and Head of CRB Japan

Nakazawa will move from STARR to WTW effective from 1 April.

WTW has confirmed the appointment of Ryohei (Roy) Nakazawa as the new Head of Japan and Head of Corporate Risk and Broking (CRB) Japan, effective from 1 April 2024.

Based in Tokyo, Nakazawa will be responsible for driving WTW’s growth strategies and operations within the country. He has a dual reporting line to Luke Ware, Head of CRB Asia, and Simon Weaver, Head of Asia Pacific and Head of CRB Asia Pacific.

Nakazawa will join WTW from STARR Insurance Japan, where he is CEO and legal representative. He brings over 35 years of insurance and reinsurance experience across Japan and the US to his new role.

Before his tenure at STARR, Nakazawa accumulated significant experience at Marsh, having dedicated six years in New York managing Japanese overseas clients and more than ten years as the Head of Global Energy Practice at Marsh Japan. His career also includes time at NISSAN Fire & Marine, now Sompo Japan, where he led its energy production and construction department.

On the new appointment, Ware commented, “Roy’s global insurance experience will undoubtedly help develop and grow our Japan business, particularly as we look to accelerate our complex and specialty segments.”

Weaver added that Japan is a key market for WTW and that he was confident that Nakazawa would work with all segments and lines of business leaders to grow the company in the Japanese market.
