AIG has named Sandeep Gopal as its new Chief Risk Officer (CRO) for Asia-Pacific (APAC), according to a LinkedIn post by Diego Rios, CRO International, on Wednesday, 2 July.
Gopal has relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to lead AIG’s enterprise risk management strategy across the APAC. He will collaborate closely with Chris Colahan, APAC Regional President, in building a “culture of operational excellence and innovation,” according to Rios.
Before joining AIG, Gopal spent over 5 years at Fairfirst Insurance, based in Sri Lanka, serving most recently as its chief executive. He also held senior positions at AmCham Sri Lanka, Swiss Re, Allied World, RSA, and Barclays.
In the post, Rios stated: “With over 23 years of experience in the insurance industry, Sandeep brings a breadth of experience that ranges from risk management and strategy to general management.”
Gopal’s move follows AIG’s key appointments across the region last month, including Snowy Chan as Marine Lead and Philip Kwan as Head of Personal Lines in Hong Kong and Macau, as well as Celina Ennis as Head of Operations for Australia and New Zealand.
