Generali Group has named Shib Shankar Saha as Head of its new Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) unit in India.

The appointment announcement was made on Monday (27 Jan), alongside the news the group had set up its GC&C operations in the country, as a unit of Future Generali India Insurance, effective from 1 January.

Saha joined Future Generali India Insurance Company in 2019 and had been serving as Head of Commercial Underwriting & Reinsurance until his most recent appointment. In the new role, he reports directly to Hong Kong-based Axel Roesner, Head of GC&C Asia.

Prior to Generali Group, Saha served in leadership roles for insurance companies such as Universal Sompo General Insurance and United India Insurance, according to LinkedIn.

The move to appoint Saha and launch GC&C in India comes amid rapid growth and regulatory change in the country’s insurance industry. Generali said in its announcement it had established its GC&C operations in India to serve the growing appetite from medium and large enterprises across lines of business such as property, liability, financial lines, engineering, marine, cyber, and parametric insurance.
