Specialist Risk Group (SRG) has announced the appointment of Collin Yap as CEO of Asia Pacific, effective after his current employment contract ends in the new year.

This appointment forms part of SRG’s plan to expand in the APAC region and follows news this week that the group will acquire Singapore-based HL Suntek Insurance Brokers Pte Ltd, pending regulatory approval, in its first foray into the Asia markets.

Yap has over 20 years of leadership experience in the insurance sector and most recently served as CEO of Marsh McLennan Singapore. Prior to that, he spent eight years at JLT Asia, including as Singapore CEO between 2016 and 2023.

Collin’s extensive experience in the region, combined with his deep knowledge of the insurance industry, makes him the perfect leader to drive our business forward in Asia.”

Group CEO of Specialist Risk Group

“We are thrilled to welcome Collin Yap to lead our expansion in the Asia Pacific region,” says Warren Downey, Group CEO of SRG. “Collin’s extensive experience in the region, combined with his deep knowledge of the insurance industry, makes him the perfect leader to drive our business forward in Asia.”

Yap commented on his new role, “I am incredibly excited to join Specialist Risk Group at such a pivotal time. SRG’s strong focus on people, culture, and specialist expertise sets it apart in the market, and I look forward to leading our expansion across Asia Pacific.”

In his new role, Yap will work closely with Chua Eng Leong, Non-Executive Director, and Lim Eng Thiam, Managing Director of HL Suntek, to develop the business using local expertise and SRG’s UK market strategies, the business said in its announcement.

Yap’s appointment and the acquisition of HL Suntek comes swiftly after Temasek and Warburg Pincus finalised a majority stake acquisition of SRG in late September in a deal believed to be valued at over £1bn (US$1.27bn).

Armed with additional firepower, SRG is now looking to grow its specialist capabilities and international presence, including in APAC. “The launch of SRG in Asia Pacific and the acquisition of HL Suntek is a pivotal moment in SRG’s journey of international growth,” Downey said earlier this week.
