The Toa Reinsurance Company has promoted Masahiro Yamada to managing director and appointed Ryo Yokochi as chief executive officer of its Singapore branch, effective 26 June, as part of a broader management reshuffle at the Japanese reinsurer.
Yamada currently serves as director and general manager of Non-Life Underwriting & Planning Department 1, where he oversees Toa Re’s property and natural catastrophe reinsurance business.
Meanwhile, Yokochi will succeed Shiko Misono as chief executive officer of the Singapore branch. Misono, who has led the Singapore operation, will become general manager of the International Department.
Currently, Yokochi works as manager of Team 1 in Toa Re’s Non-Life Underwriting & Planning Department 2, overseeing casualty, specialty, marine and motor reinsurance business.
The changes, announced by president and chief executive officer Masaaki Matsunaga, include several other board-level and management appointments.
Mitsuru Ichiji has been appointed director and general manager of the Life Underwriting Department. He previously served as general manager of the unit, which handles the reinsurer’s life, accident and health reinsurance operations in Japan and overseas markets.
Hironobu Kawahara will become director and general manager of the Communication & Coordination Department, as well as senior manager of the Management Planning Department. Shingo Kawaguchi has been named outside director.
The company also confirmed the retirements of managing director Hironori Ashikawa, director Kozo Nakamura and outside director Yasunobu Fukuda.
Alongside the leadership changes, Toa Re announced an organisational restructuring that includes the establishment of a Strategic Business Development Department. Its Business Development Department will also be renamed the Digital Transformation Department.
Yoshimitsu Mizui has been appointed general manager of the newly created Strategic Business Development Department, while Aya Fujita will lead the Digital Transformation Department.
Other management appointments include Masayuki Matsumoto as general manager of Non-Life Underwriting & Planning Department 1, Tomoyasu Ohta as general manager of the Internal Audit Department and Tetsuji Maruyama as general manager of the Compliance Department.
