Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) on Tuesday announced the appointment of Georgina Furness-Smith as Cyber Underwriter for Asia Pacific, effective from 2 January.

Singapore-based Furness-Smith brings over five years of cyber underwriting experience to the role and joins from AXIS Capital, where she was Senior Cyber Underwriter and helped to develop the specialty insurer’s cyber property damage portfolio.

TMK’s APAC cyber team was established in August 2023. With TMK reporting strong growth since its inception, Furness-Smith joins to support the speciatly (re)insurer’s cyber ambitions in key markets across APAC. 

“There are significant growth opportunities in the APAC cyber market, and Georgina arrives at an exciting time for the team,” says Pavlos Spyropoulos, Regional Managing Director for Asia Pacific.

Commenting on her new role, Furness-Smith said there is scope to expand the business’s cyber proposition and portfolio and to unlock new growth opportunities, adding that she was looking forward to joining the team at a “key point in its journey.” 

Originally from the UK, Furness-Smith brings 14 years of industry experience to her new role, with over five years focused on Cyber underwriting. She also has underwriting experience for Marine and other lines of business, working for companies like Hardy Underwriting, Ark Syndicate Management, and Aspen Underwriting Limited, according to LinkedIn.
