The UK P&I Club has appointed Jeong-Sook Kim as senior underwriting director, strengthening its Asia-Pacific underwriting team and reinforcing its commitment to the Korean market, according to an official press release.

Kim joined the club on 4 August and will initially be responsible for Korea. Based in London, she will work closely with chief underwriting officer William Beveridge and the club’s Asia-Pacific leadership team to support underwriting strategy and business development.

“In her role, she will help shape and deliver the club’s underwriting strategy while strengthening its presence, reputation and Membership base in the Korean market,” the club said.

She brings more than 30 years of experience across insurance broking, underwriting and legal practice in Asia, including Korea, Japan and Vietnam. An associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a qualified lawyer, Kim has specialised expertise in P&I and freight, demurrage and defence insurance.

The UK P&I Club said she has built longstanding relationships with shipowners, members and brokers throughout the region and has an established track record in developing and servicing marine insurance business across the Korean and wider Asian markets.

William Beveridge, chief underwriting officer at the UK P&I Club, said: “Her appointment reflects our long-term commitment to the Korean market and underlines the strategic importance of Korea within the UK Club’s Asia-Pacific growth plans.”

“Her experience across both the Korean and international shipping markets, coupled with the strong relationships she has built throughout her career, will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our presence in the region and particularly Korea,” Beveridge added.

Kim most recently worked as a senior associate in the specialist shipping team at law firm Campbell Johnston Clark. She has also held several senior roles within the P&I insurance sector during her career.
