Skuld has appointed Wei Fan to head its Hong Kong business unit from September 2027, as part of a planned leadership transition, the marine insurer announced.
He will succeed Patrick Wang, who has been with Skuld since 2014. Following Fan’s appointment, Wang will assume the role of chairman of Skuld (Far East), the company said in a press release on 21 October.
Fan joined Skuld in 2012, and currently serves as senior vice president, head of marketing and underwriting. His experience spans claims, legal, underwriting and marketing functions, having held multiple roles within the organisation.
The appointment is part of Skuld’s succession planning efforts and is intended to support the continued development of its Hong Kong business and strengthen its position in the market.
The changes form part of a wider reorganisation that will consolidate Skuld’s market structure into larger business units with broader regional responsibilities.
Under the new structure, the insurer’s Asia operations will comprise separate business units covering Hong Kong and Singapore-Japan. Nicholas March, who joined Skuld in 2015 to head its Singapore office, will continue to lead the Singapore-Japan unit.
The changes have also come at a time when heightened geopolitical and security risks are reshaping global shipping and marine insurance markets. In August, Skuld announced the withdrawal of certain war-risk cover across parts of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean. More broadly, marine insurers have been repricing war risk exposures following US-Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.
