The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has elected Toshiyuki Miyoshi, as its new Executive Committee Chair, the organisation announced in a media release on 14 November. His term will run until November 2027.
Miyoshi succeeds Shigeru Ariizumi, who completed a two-year term marked by the finalisation of the Insurance Capital Standard (ICS) and delivery of the IAIS’ next five-year strategic plan.
Miyoshi is the Vice Minister for International Affairs at Japan’s Financial Services Agency. He brings over two decades of experience in global financial policy, supervision, and international engagement. Apart from the JFSA, Miyoshi also held senior positions at Japan’s Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund.
In a statement, Miyoshi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him, adding: “I look forward to continuing the strong momentum of the IAIS, particularly as we advance the implementation of the ICS, deliver on our strategic objectives and continue to address critical challenges, such as supporting insurance to serve its societal role.”
Jonathan Dixon, IAIS Secretary General, welcomed the appointment, noting: “Toshiyuki brings a wealth of financial sector experience and senior-level global engagement to this role at a time when the interconnections between the insurance sector and other parts of the financial system continue to grow.”
