Pacific Catastrophe Risk Insurance Company (PCRIC) has appointed its long-serving director Siosiua Tuitalukua Utoikamanu as the new chairman of its board of directors, the company announced via LinkedIn on Thursday.

An independent consultant specialising in international development issues, Utoikamanu assumes his new role following the recent approval of PCRIC’s new strategic and business plans toward broadening disaster risk financing in the region.

Utoikamanu brings extensive experience in regional governance and holds several high-level positions, including pro-chancellor and chair of the council of the University of the South Pacific (USP) and member of Tonga’s Privy Council. He has also served as the governor of the National Reserve Bank of Tonga, minister for finance and chief commissioner of revenue for the Government of Tonga, and director of the Pacific Islands Centre for Public Administration at USP.

“PCRIC is privileged to benefit from his wealth of expertise and looks forward to the strategic guidance and leadership he will provide as the company continues to strengthen the financial resilience of Pacific Island nations,” the company said.
