Ash Bathia has joined Niyam Group’s board as a non-executive director, the Indian reinsurance business announced on Monday.

Based in the UK, Bathia joins from Probitas 1492, where he most recently served as chief executive officer and active underwriter.

He brings over 46 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has held numerous underwriting and leadership positions at firms in London, including QBE Europe, Eagle Star, and a Lloyd’s syndicate managed by Capita.

The announcement follows Ruchi Sheth‘s appointment to lead Niyam’s marine and energy portfolio for Niyam Syndicate 2047, with a focus on supporting the placement of speciality marine and complex risks within India.

Niyam Group launched in January as a reinsurance venture in India’s GIFT City under founder and CEO Bobby Swarup, later naming Devesh Srivastava as chairman. In March, J.C. Flowers & Co. agreed to acquire a controlling stake in the company and join as lead investor in Niyam Syndicate 2047 at Lloyd’s.
