The government of India has appointed Dinesh Pant, Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), as Whole-Time Member (Actuary) at the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), according to a stock exchange filing.
Pant will serve a five-year term from the date of assuming charge, or until he reaches the age of 65, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He brings more than 35 years of experience spanning actuarial services, investments, risk management, underwriting and insurance operations to his new role.
A fellow of both the Institute of Actuaries of India and the UK-based Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, he holds degrees in engineering and law, as well as an MBA.
Pant was appointed Managing Director of LIC in June 2025. His previous leadership roles include serving as Country Head and General Manager for life business at Kenya-based Kenindia Assurance between 2007 and 2012.
Pant began his career with LIC in 1989 as an assistant administrative officer in Delhi and later held several senior positions, including Deputy Secretary (Investments). He rejoined the insurer in 2012 as Product Actuary in Mumbai.
