American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has appointed industry veteran Darrin Madgwick as head of client and broker engagement for New Zealand, the insurer announced on Friday.

Before joining AIG, Madgwick spent over five years at Universal Business Team (UBT), most recently serving as head of insurance for ANZ at UBT Protect. Earlier in his career, he also worked at Apex Insurance, Elite Insurance Brokers, Aon, and Willis New Zealand.

Madgwick brings more than 30 years of insurance experience across New Zealand and Australia, spanning broking, underwriting, claims, business ownership and executive leadership.

“His deep market relationships and strong client and broker focus will help us continue to strengthen our partnerships and support sustainable growth in New Zealand,” AIG New Zealand CEO Liam Pomfret said on LinkedIn.

The appointment follows a broader wave of executive hires by the group across Asia-Pacific. In September, AIG General Insurance Japan appointed Keiichi Ishida as head of commercial property to lead the company’s next phase of growth.

Earlier this year, the insurer also named Daina Muceniece as regional head of trade credit for APAC and promoted Pongprat Suwan to country head of trade credit for Thailand.
