Specialist (re)insurance broker BMS has announced the launch of its agriculture business in Australia, with Ceri Martin appointed to lead the new division.

Martin joins BMS from Nutrien, a global farming services company. She brings extensive experience to the position with a career that includes roles in property underwriting, establishing a farm broking portfolio, and serving as an agricultural risk advisory specialist.

As Head of Agriculture at BMS Australia, Martin will oversee the growth of the newly launched business line, which offers disease, carbon, weather, and traditional property and casualty insurance solutions.

The new division will “focus on delivering innovative and dynamic solutions to clients in response to the evolving agricultural landscape”, BMS said in its announcement.

Andrew Godden, Chief Executive of BMS Australia, commented, “We are truly thrilled to announce the launch of our agriculture division, and there is no one better suited to lead it than Ceri.

As a growing specialty retail broker, which understands the importance of building close relationships with our clients, we see numerous opportunities to expand into agriculture and collaborate with farmers across Australia.”

Commenting on her new role, Martin said: “The landscape of Australian agriculture has significantly shifted and as farming becomes more sophisticated, digital agriculture is becoming increasingly crucial.

There is a need to support our farmers as they navigate these changes, safeguarding their farms and addressing a market gap by offering dynamic and innovative solutions instead of traditional insurance options.”
