Amita Chaudhury, Group Head of Sustainability at AIA, has been appointed Chair of the Board of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI), the insurer announced on LinkedIn on 19 September.
Chaudhury has been a Board Member and Vice-Chair of the PSI since January 2024, and takes on the Chair role after almost two years in that position. At AIA, she has led the group’s sustainability programme since 2021.
She previously served as Senior Advisor for Sustainability at the UN Global Compact, on secondment from Unilever, where she also spent more than a decade in leadership roles, including Global Director for Sustainable Business in South East Asia and Australasia, and Global Diversity and Inclusion Director.
Her appointment comes as the PSI continues to expand its role in shaping sustainable practices across the sector. Launched in 2012, the initiative is the largest collaboration between the United Nations and the global insurance industry. It sets out four principles for integrating environmental, social and governance considerations into insurers’ strategies and operations, with close to 300 members worldwide.
