The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has appointed Jane Magill as executive director of life insurance, private health insurance, and superannuation (LPHIS), effective 16 February, the regulator said in an official statement on Monday.

Magill, APRA’s current executive director of general insurance and banking, will assume the new role following the departure of Carmen Beverley-Smith, who stepped down last week to take up a senior position at a regulated entity.

To cover Magill’s current responsibilities, Peter Diamond, APRA’s general manager for banking, will serve as acting executive director of general insurance and banking while a recruitment process is underway. Diamond’s acting appointment will also commence on 16 February.

Meanwhile, Peter Kohlhagen will continue as acting executive director of LPHIS until Magill formally assumes the role.
