AXA Hong Kong and Macau has completed the re-domiciliation of AXA China Region Insurance Company (Bermuda) Limited from Bermuda to Hong Kong, effective 26 January 2026.
The move, first announced in May 2025, was carried out under the new company re-domiciliation regime introduced by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, with the company being renamed AXA China Region Insurance Company (Hong Kong) Limited.
AXA is the second insurer to re-domicile under the framework, following Manulife’s move in December 2025.
Hong Kong’s Insurance Authority welcomed the move, saying the addition of a re-domiciled insurer reinforces Hong Kong’s appeal as an international financial centre and reflects the industry’s commitment to contributing to Hong Kong as a regional insurance hub.
“The re-domiciliation underscores our strong confidence in Hong Kong’s strategic importance and growth potential,” says Sally Wan, chief executive officer of AXA Greater China. “Leveraging Hong Kong’s robust economy and its role as a regional hub for insurance and risk management, we are confident that AXA’s long-term success will continue to advance.”
AXA said it intends to apply to the relevant authorities in Macau in the week commencing 2 February 2026 to update the name of its Macau branch following the re-domiciliation.
