Sun Life Private Wealth has appointed Alvin Soh, Liem Phan and Georgina Howes to senior leadership roles in Singapore and Bermuda, following its July launch, which consolidated Sun Life’s high-net-worth (HNW) operations across four markets.
Soh has been named chief executive officer (CEO) of Sun Life Private Wealth Singapore and will lead the company’s operations in the market. He joins from FWD Singapore, where he most recently served as chief distribution and marketing officer. He also previously worked at Great Eastern, Aviva, Tokio Marine, and Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad.
Soh brings over 16 years of leadership experience across Southeast Asia. As CEO, he will focus on deepening relationships with distribution partners and strengthening connectivity across product, underwriting, operations, finance, compliance and risk.
Phan has been appointed as chief product officer in Singapore. Before joining Sun Life, he spent more than 21 years at Swiss Re. Phan joined the reinsurer in 2005 and held senior leadership roles in Singapore and Switzerland, most recently serving as director and market head for its life and health insurance business across Southeast Asia and India.
Phan holds over 20 years of international leadership experience across Asia and Europe. At Sun Life Private Wealth, he will shape the platform’s product strategy, from product design and pricing to lifecycle management, governance and innovation.
In Bermuda, Howes has been appointed as CEO and country manager. Before joining Sun Life, she led Bermuda at Transamerica Life (Bermuda), where she established and scaled the company’s HNW operations.
Howes brings more than 25 years of insurance experience, with expertise spanning life and health underwriting, operations, and HNW insurance across multiple jurisdictions and complex organisations. Sun Life said that she “will drive sustainable performance of the Bermuda business and strengthen Bermuda’s role as a key wealth hub within Sun Life Private Wealth’s integrated platform”.
Speaking on the appointments, Sun Life Private Wealth CEO Sujoy Ghosh said, “Liem, Georgina and Alvin bring strong market experience, technical depth and proven leadership as we continue to serve the increasingly complex needs of high net worth families across global wealth hubs.”
Last month, the insurer established a new Bermuda insurance subsidiary to write participating life products for HNW clients.
Asia’s expanding private wealth market is intensifying competition among insurers, as a growing pool of HNW individuals drives demand for increasingly sophisticated products. Ghosh said, “Clients have become very global in nature. They are looking for the best solutions that we can provide, irrespective of which jurisdiction it comes from.”
