Specialty (re)insurer Canopius has continued its strategic push down under with the appointments of Andrew Parker and Paul Wedlock. Parker will have a dual role as Head of Treaty, ANZ and Head of Casualty Treaty, APAC, while Wedlock joins as Head of Property Treaty, Australia & New Zealand.

The Sydney-based pair join from Aspen Re and will help expand Canopius’s Australian reinsurance offering. Canopius concurrently announced the hiring of Peter Mattei, as Casualty Treaty Underwriter, and Liza Aparicio as Office Manager.

Parker, who has 33 years industry experience, joins Canopius after eight years at Aspen Re in Sydney. Most recently, he was Head of Australia and New Zealand and helped to double the GWP of Aspen Re’s Australian P&C operations since 2015.

Wedlock brings three decades of experience and a wealth of knowledge. Most recently, he was the Head of Property, Australia and New Zealand at Aspen. He has also worked at Swiss Re and Munich Re.

Canopius had announced the opening of a new office in Melbourne this year and is reinforcing its commitment to the specialty reinsurance market in Australia with the hiring of these four new employees.
