Chris Mackinnon has been appointed to lead Munich Re Specialty’s expansion into the Australian market, the business said in a LinkedIn announcement.

The appointment is set for the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

Mackinnon will move from Lloyd’s, where he has served for more than a decade, and was appointed Regional Director for Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa in April 2024. Prior to that, he had held the position of Regional Head of Australia and New Zealand and was Lloyd’s General Representative for Australia.

Mackinnon’s experience spans over three decades across London, Singapore, and Sydney, with leadership roles in broking, underwriting, distribution, strategy, and regulation. He will move back to Sydney in order to take on the new role.

Mackinnon has previously held roles at Marsh, Aon, and Gallagher, and was CEO of Gow-Gates Insurance Brokers for two years. From 2017 to 2024, he served as an Executive Director of the Insurance Council of Australia and also as an Associate Director at Australia’s Underwriting Agencies Council.
