Coastal Marine has appointed Eric Chan as its cargo underwriter for APAC, the managing general agent announced on Thursday.
An industry veteran, Chan brings over four decades of experience and expertise in marine cargo underwriting, specialising in building marine portfolios and developing underwriting strategies.
Prior to joining Coastal Marine, Chan was head of marine underwriting at Sompo Hong Kong, where he led underwriting operations, expanded client portfolios, and drove growth across Japanese and non-Japanese business lines.
Before that, he also held key underwriting roles at General Reinsurance AG, specialising in facultative marine reinsurance across Greater China.
“Eric’s credentials in regional cargo underwriting, combined with his deep understanding of market dynamics and proven success in implementing digital solutions such as eCargo platforms, will be instrumental as we continue to expand and modernise our marine offering,” said Simon Stonehouse, Chief Underwriting Officer at Coastal Marine.
Founded in 2012, Coastal Marine Asia has built a presence across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, focusing on intermediary-driven distribution and emphasising responsiveness and claims service.
Last year, the MGA named Joe Battle as Chairman and appointed Callum Clark as Group Chief Executive Officer as part of a broader strategy to support the company’s next phase of growth.
