Generali Central Insurance has appointed Sandeep Pannalalji Rathi as senior vice president and head of underwriting, further strengthening its senior leadership team in Asia.

Rathi rejoins the insurer, where he was previously general manager of property underwriting when it traded as Future Generali India Insurance. Based in Mumbai, he brings more than 20 years of experience in property and engineering underwriting, portfolio profitability and strategic risk selection.

Before rejoining Generali Central Insurance, Rathi was briefly regional underwriting manager, facultative, at Kuwait Reinsurance Company K.S.C.P. He has previously held senior underwriting roles at ICICI Lombard, Bharti AXA General Insurance and Kotak Mahindra General Insurance.

Rathi’s appointment comes as Generali Central Insurance expands its senior leadership team in India, following the return of Krishnamoorthy Rao as managing director and CEO of its property and casualty joint venture in India and the appointment of Shobit Gupta as chief investment officer, both this year.

The appointment also follows a strong first half for Generali in Asia. The Italian insurer’s Asia life new business value rose 147% year on year to EUR503m (US$582m) in the first half of 2026, from EUR204m a year earlier, while group-wide new business value increased 21% to EUR1.89bn for the six months ended 30 June.
