Asia on the radar for HDI’s ART unit as Eric Joly-Pottuz takes charge

Eric Joly-Pottuz has been named as the new Head of HDI Enablers, the Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) unit of HDI Global.  

Joly-Pottuz has been with HDI Global for almost nine years, most recently serving as Chief Strategy & Execution Officer.

He succeeds Etienne de Varax, who has been with HDI Enablers since its foundation, with the business saying he had been “instrumental” in its successful development.

De Varax will remain as Senior Advisor at HDI Global until the end of 2024 before retiring.

While based in Europe, the company is currently focused on expanding to markets, including Asia, Joly-Pottuz says. “Our core business is in Europe, but at the same time we’re also open to expand our business beyond.”

“Potential markets such as the US and Asia are of interest to us. Malaysia, for example, is currently becoming a big domicile for captives. We are in contact with our connections there to determine whether or not there’s an opportunity for us to go further,” he added.

Thomas Kuhnt, Member of the Executive Board at HDI Global SE, commented on the appointment, commented on the appointment: “With Eric Joly-Pottuz, we have an experienced expert at the helm of HDI Enablers who will take our ART offering to a new level.”  

Kuhnt also thanked the retiring de Varax: “We would like to thank his predecessor Etienne de Varax for his successful commitment in developing the unit into an important player in the field of alternative risk transfer in Europe within two years since its foundation.”

“I am pleased that he will remain with the company as Senior Advisor until the end of 2024 before taking his well-deserved retirement,” Kuhnt added.
