The International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) and the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board (HKMPDB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote marine insurance education and professional training in Hong Kong.
The agreement aims to enhance maritime education, develop industry talent and raise awareness of marine insurance through joint programmes and events.
It also seeks to build a skilled workforce with an international outlook to support Hong Kong’s maritime cluster.
As part of the MoU, the Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) will coordinate local implementation. This will include developing training initiatives using IUMI’s educational content, such as its online tutorials in cargo and hull insurance, and supporting marine insurance-focused activities at Hong Kong maritime events.
HKFI chief executive Selina Lau said the federation welcomed the collaboration between IUMI and the HKMPDB, noting that it would help strengthen local talent development in the sector.
“With the strong backing of the HKMPDB, the Hong Kong marine insurance sector will leverage IUMI’s extensive capacity-building resources developed over the years, effectively enabling broader marine insurance education,” she added.
