Korea´s Carrot General Insurance has appointed Jinho Lee as its new Chief Technology Officer, as reported by the Korea Herald
Lee, a former Apple expert in artificial intelligence and machine learning, will assist the company in its transformation into a data-driven platform firm.
Carrot General Insurance, founded in 2019 as a joint venture between Hanwha General Insurance, SK Telecom, and Hyundai Motor, aims to expand beyond vehicle insurance by leveraging data-driven solutions.
“I decided to join Carrot, the first digital non-life insurer in Korea, because I sympathized with the path that Carrot has taken so far and the company’s vision of pursuing a ‘digital and data-based business’,” said Lee.
With 17 years of experience in Silicon Valley, Lee brings a strong background in data processing and artificial intelligence to his new role.
From Apple’s Siri to Carrot
During his time at Apple, he worked on upgrading the search engine Spotlight and the virtual assistant Siri. Prior to that, he co-founded Intellus Learning, an educational technology company, and held positions at the US-based online retailer Become.com.
Lee holds a PhD and master’s degrees in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He recently served as the chief technical officer at WeMakePrice, an e-commerce platform.
“I expect that (Lee’s) capabilities and experience will be a great help to Carrot’s journey, which is walking on a path that no one has ever taken before,” said Moon Hyo-il, CEO at Carrot Insurance.
