ManipalCigna Health Insurance has appointed Joydeep Saha as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, following regulatory approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), the company announced.

Saha has been with ManipalCigna for over seven years, most recently serving as Appointed Actuary and Chief Officer, where he oversaw actuarial, product, reinsurance, group underwriting and analytics functions.

Saha brings more than 20 years of experience in the insurance sector, with expertise in actuarial science, product development and strategic business planning. Before joining ManipalCigna, he had worked for firms such as Max Bupa, Religare Health Insurance, and L&T General Insurance, among others.

“Joydeep’s deep understanding of the organisation and the broader health insurance means that he is well-equipped to lead the company into its next phase of strategic growth,” said Jerome Droesch, CEO International Organizations, Domestic Health and Health Services, Cigna Healthcare International Health.

Saha takes the helm as ManipalCigna operates in a rapidly expanding Indian insurance market. The company crossed the 5.3bn-rupee (approx. US$60.5m) premium mark in the first half of 2025, posting about 30% year-on-year growth, while India’s general insurance sector hit record highs with premiums rising 13.21% in April 2025 to 335.98bn rupees.
