Markel recruits April Tam from Allianz Commercial as Head of Financial Institutions Asia

Tam joins the specialty (re)insurer as Head of Financial Institutions in Asia and Senior Underwriter, Professional Financial Risk.

Markel on Thursday (19 September) announced it has appointed April Tam as Head of Financial Institutions, Asia and Senior Underwriter, Professional Financial Risk (PFR).

Hong Kong-based Tam joins the specialty (re)insurer after over six years with Allianz Commercial, where she was serving most recently as Financial Institutions Practice Leader for Asia. She brings nearly 13 years of experience in Financial Lines underwriting, having previously worked at Zurich.

In her new role, she reports to Kevin Leung, Chief Underwriting Officer for Asia, with Markel saying she will be “instrumental” in strengthening its Financial Institutions proposition across Asia. She will also work closely with the APAC and MENA underwriting teams to drive profitable growth on its PFR book, ensuring its scalability and diversification, Markel added.
