Allianz Commercial has appointed Steve Williams as head of liability underwriting in Australia, the Sydney-headquartered general insurer announced on Tuesday.

Williams, who has been with Allianz for over 15 years, held senior underwriting roles in the personal injury division before stepping into the acting head of liability role in October 2025. Prior to joining the company, he also worked in underwriting roles for Xchange and QBE Insurance.

He brings over two decades of industry experience into his new role.

“Experienced in working in end-to-end businesses and leading teams, Steve has experience in bringing a strong technical and business acumen to both portfolio and frontline case underwriting,” Allianz said in its announcement.

The announcement follows other recent appointments made by the business. Earlier this year, Allianz Commercial promoted Jenny Wilhelm to the newly created role of managing director, Singapore, and William Slade to regional head of distribution. The appointments follow other notable hires by the firm in Asia, including naming Awa Ketty-Camara as regional head of multinational for Asia and Masahide Naito as head of property for Japan.
