Gallagher-owned Pen Underwriting Australia has promoted two members of its liability team, elevating Corey Macri to liability team manager and Michael Kennedy to senior liability underwriter, the specialist MGA said on Wednesday.

Macri joined Pen in 2024 as a senior liability underwriter, after spending more than a decade in various underwriting roles at QBE Insurance.

“Corey has been a key contributor to the continued growth of our liability division and is now leading the team, strengthening broker relationships and driving strong underwriting outcomes,” Pen said in a LinkedIn post.

Kennedy has been with Pen for almost four years, having joined as an underwriter specialising in hospitality and general liability. He previously worked as a case management specialist at EML Group.

His promotion to senior liability underwriter “recognises his technical expertise, commitment to brokers and consistent contribution to the liability team,” the company said.

Pen said the promotions are part of its approach to strengthening its existing staff and filling more senior roles internally.

The appointments follow a series of leadership changes at Pen, whose capacity partners include major (re)insurers such as Swiss Re, Lloyd’s, Berkley Re and AXA.

In August, the MGA promoted Paul Behm to head of underwriting, while Ev Synnott took on the newly created role of head of operational strategy and transformation.

The moves follow a recruitment drive for underwriters in 2025.
