Ocean Underwriting has promoted Alexandra Merida to senior liability underwriter, recognising her contribution to the liability portfolio’s growth since joining the business in early 2024, the managing general agent announced on Monday.
Based in Sydney, Merida brings around a decade of insurance industry experience. Before joining Ocean Underwriting, she worked at Brooklyn Underwriting for over a year as a liability underwriter. She also held roles with the NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority, Zurich Financial Services Australia and Blue Badge Insurance Australia.
James Tuitavuki, Ocean’s head of liability, said: “Alexandra has contributed significantly to the growth of our liability portfolio since joining Ocean in early 2024. Her disciplined approach to risk, and awareness of what it takes to build a sustainable portfolio, has made her an invaluable member of the team.”
The promotion comes as Ocean expands its liability offering and team.
In February, the managing general agent launched a complex risks liability facility targeting hard-to-place exposures outside standard liability policies, including demolition contracting and other higher-hazard work.
Ocean also appointed Lucy Tairi as a liability underwriter and Layla Williams as an assistant underwriter, liability.
