Mervyn Rea, Head of Risk Engineering for Australia and New Zealand at Zurich Resilience Solutions (ZRS), has announced his departure from the business after nearly four decades.
Rea began his career with the company after leaving college. In a LinkedIn post, he reflected on his career and the changes in technology and workplace culture since his first day.
“I know I will be leaving the company in good shape, with record-breaking results. I personally have built and developed one of the best risk engineering teams, both in skills, experience and diversity,” he wrote.
Rea’s departure coincides with a restructuring of the ZRS team, which will result in the discontinuation of his role after 14 March.
Rea began his career in 1986 as an underwriter with Eagle Star Insurance in Belfast, Ireland, which later merged with Zurich. In 1991, he moved to Manchester and joined Zurich’s Risk Engineering team in 1993. He relocated to Perth, Australia, in 2003 and then to Melbourne in 2012. Since 2016, he has led Zurich’s Risk Engineering team for Australia and New Zealand.
Post-departure, Rea plans to spend time with family and friends and engage in personal interests, but added, “I do plan to continue in the industry that I have loved for 39 years, and hope to play a part in its continuing development. I still want to help businesses avoid loss, mitigate disasters and become as resilient as they can be.”
