QBE Re has named Soichiro Tanaka as Head of Southeast Asia, the business announced in a media release on Monday.

Tanaka brings 13 years of insurance and reinsurance experience in Asia to the role and joins from Aspen, where he served as Senior Underwriter for the Singapore branch, across property, casualty, and speciality lines.

In this newly created role, Tanaka is based in Singapore and will lead the underwriting strategy for Southeast Asia and oversee portfolio management and growth in the region. He reports to Cindy Foo, Head of Asia, Treaty.

“We are delighted to welcome Soichiro to the role as we continue to grow our Asia portfolio,” Foo said. “I am confident his strong technical expertise and breadth of multi-line experience in Southeast Asia will be an asset to QBE Re.”

Tanaka’s appointment is the latest in a series of key appointments by QBE’s reinsurance arm as the business continues to expand its footprint in Asia. This includes Foo, who herself joined the business in December from Berkley Re, as well as Sven Liu, who was appointed head of Greater China in January.
