Specialist Risk Group (SRG) has opened a 12-week Accelerated Broking Program in Australia, which is taking applications now in Melbourne and Sydney.
The brokerage said the programme widens the entry point and builds its own talent rather than competing for experienced brokers. It cited data showing brokers aged 18-29 make up 11% of the profession, the same share as those aged 60 and over, with a median age of 44.
No prior insurance experience is required and SRG said it is targeting candidates with one to four years’ experience in consulting, legal, audit or accounting roles.
Participants will gain exposure to global carriers and complex risk placement through the group’s network across Australia, Singapore, Europe and the UK.
“The industry has spent years competing for the same experienced brokers,” said Laurence Basell, managing director at SRG Australia. “The market is shifting, though, and clients increasingly want someone who understands their business commercially, not just their policy wording. That raises the bar on the skills a broker needs, which is exactly why bringing in new talent from different backgrounds is so critical.”
The first eight weeks cover induction, systems training and broker shadowing while participants study for the ANZIIF Tier 1 qualification, SRG’s preferred training provider. From week nine they take on live client work, drafting client communications, preparing pitches and shaping renewal strategy under a dedicated mentor broker. The programme closes with a case study put to SRG’s leadership, after which participants move into a broking role.
SRG entered the Australian market in February 2026 with offices in Sydney and Melbourne, leading with entertainment, media and sport. It added an employee benefits division in April under Travis Bailey, and in August promoted Joanna Goh to partner, head of strategy and growth, Asia, effective 1 September.
