Swiss Re has appointed Puneet Kumar as head its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, the reinsurer said in a LinkedIn update on Friday.
Kumar, who is a senior vice president at the company, will continue to lead central operations for Asia Pacific while taking on responsibility for GCCs India.
“Having spent over 10 years with Swiss Re, Puneet has played an active role in shaping our operations in India,” Swiss Re said.
A finance executive based in Bengaluru, Kumar joined the company in 2016 as vice president, strategic initiatives. He previously held managerial roles at HP, AXA XL and Genpact LLC.
The move followed a strong first half for Swiss Re, as it reported a 9% year-on-year increase in net income to US$2.8bn. L&H Re contributed US$1bn to group net income, up 21% from US$865m a year earlier, with Swiss Re attributing the increase to healthy underwriting margins and more favourable experience variance.
The new appointment also aligns with Swiss Re’s strategic expansion across India. Last month, the reinsurer signed an exclusive partnership with Bajaj General Insurance to provide underwriting expertise across commercial lines and supporting sectors such as high-tech and manufacturing.
At an international level, the reinsurer recently announced Ben Savill as CEO for Australia & New Zealand, effective 1 October 2026.
