Tsuyoshi Ijichi to lead FWD Japan as CEO

He joins FWD following an 11-year stint with MetLife Insurance.

FWD Group Holdings Limited has announced the appointment of Tsuyoshi Ijichi as Representative Director, President, and Chief Executive Officer of FWD Japan, effective 14 January 2025.

Ijichi moves to FWD after over 11 years with MetLife Insurance K.K. Japan, where he most recently served as Director, Representative Statutory Executive Officer, and Deputy President.

To the new role, he brings over 25 years of industry experience, with expertise in Japan’s financial services sector, life insurance, corporate and retail banking, as well as consumer finance. He has previously worked in leadership roles for several firms, including Mitsubishi UFJ Bank and GE Money.

FWD Group’s CEO, Huynh Thanh Phong, commented on Ijichi’s appointment: “We’re delighted to welcome Ijichi-san to drive our next phase of growth in Japan… With [his] leadership, I’m confident we’ll further scale our Japan business by changing the way people feel about insurance.”

Talking about his new role, Ijichi said, “I’m very excited to be joining FWD in Japan at a key inflection point in its history. FWD is well positioned for growth, with a customer-led and digitally enabled approach to its protection and savings focused strategy.”
