Hong Kong-based managing general agent (MGA) Huntington Underwriting has appointed Steve Smith as Senior Advisor.
Smith has more than 30 years of experience in insurance, reinsurance, and insurance-linked securities (ILS), with a career spanning roles in investment banking, law, and family office investment management.
In his new role, Smith will advise Huntington Underwriting on strategic development, capital deployment, and partnerships as the company expands its underwriting platform in Asia and other regions.
Gerard L. Pennefather, Founder and Chairman of Huntington Underwriting, said, “Steve’s experience sits at the intersection of capital, risk, and innovation. His insights into global reinsurance markets, alternative risk transfer (ART) structures, and climate adaptive finance will be invaluable as we continue building an underwriting business defined by precision, data intelligence, and disciplined growth.”
“Huntington’s focus on combining data, technology, and disciplined underwriting represents a forward-looking approach to risk,” Smith said. “I’m pleased to support the team as they expand their reach across specialty and alternative reinsurance markets.”
Smith is Co-Founder and Investment Committee Chair of Maybole Capital Partners, a UK-based single-family office with a presence in Singapore. He oversees the family’s reinsurance and ILS allocations and has invested in catastrophe bonds and other ILS instruments since the late 1990s.
