Liberty Insurance has named Marcus Thomas, Brett Gardiner, Shawn Anderson, Ben Hissey, and Angelo Maniatis to new leadership roles in its Asia-Pacific underwriting team as part of a regional restructure, the business announced on LinkedIn on Thursday.

The appointments follow the integration of Liberty’s retail, commercial, and specialty operations across Singapore, Hong Kong, China, India, Malaysia, and Australia.

Marcus Thomas will relocate from Sydney to Hong Kong to serve as chief underwriting officer commercial for Asia and CUO third party for Asia-Pacific. He has been with Liberty since 2003 and has worked in professional and financial lines since 1995.

Brett Gardiner has been appointed CUO Australia and CUO first party Asia-Pacific. He has been with Liberty for over 23 years, and has served most recently as senior vice president – head of energy, property and construction for Asia-Pacific.

Shawn Anderson will become chief product officer for auto, accident and health, and personal lines in Asia. He has held senior product leadership roles across Liberty Mutual for more than a decade, most recently as chief product officer for the East Region of Asia Markets.

Ben Hissey will lead specialty products, with added responsibility for reinsurance and underwriting enablement. He was a founding member of Liberty’s corporate insurance operations in Asia-Pacific and has spent more than 25 years with the business, including 13 years leading its Asia operations.

Angelo Maniatis will oversee Liberty’s risk engineering function across Asia Pacific. Maniatis has been with Liberty since 2009, initially as head of casualty risk engineering across Asia-Pacific. He most recently served as assistant vice president, risk engineering – casualty for Asia-Pacific.

All five executives will report to Mike Abdallah, who continues as CUO of Liberty International Insurance Asia-Pacific.

The moves come after Liberty Insurance announced the launch of its Surety business in India last month, with the company seeing opportunity in the rising demand in the construction and infrastructure financing sectors.
