Pacific Life Re has reshaped its global protection business leadership, with appointments across Asia-Pacific and a new structure that places pricing and underwriting under unified global oversight while increasing leadership focus in key markets.
In a statement on Wednesday, Pacific Life Re announced the appointment of Jia Yi Tan as chief pricing, underwriting and claims officer for protection.
Based in Singapore, Tan joined Pacific Life Re in January as global chief underwriting and claims officer. Before that, she worked at iptiQ, Swiss Re’s business-to-business-to-consumer insurance company, for over five years, most recently serving as board of director for iptiQ Americas.
The expanded role broadens her responsibilities across the protection business and is intended to improve alignment across the reinsurer’s functional capabilities and support closer collaboration with its market-facing teams.
Alongside the changes to its global functional leadership, Pacific Life Re is also bolstering market leadership across its protection business.
The reinsurer appointed Jane Cheng, who joined the reinsurer in February, as general manager for protection in Southeast Asia and Jonathan Sen as general manager for protection in Australia.
Kenichi Kim, who was appointed to head the reinsurer’s South Korea business in May 2025, will assume expanded leadership responsibilities as general manager for Korea and Japan. Meanwhile, Mala Thurston will take on the role of general manager for Europe.
Andrew Gill, Pacific Life Re’s executive vice president for protection, said, “Across the world, insurers are navigating evolving customer expectations, changing distribution models and increasingly complex protection needs.” He added that the changes bring leadership closer to clients and markets while maintaining access to Pacific Life Re’s global capabilities, expertise, and support.
