Global broker Howden has appointed Shunsuke Takechi as Head of M&A for Japan, effective immediately, the company announced on LinkedIn.
Takechi, a qualified Japanese attorney with over 13 years of experience, holds the unique distinction of being the first and only licensed senior Japanese lawyer in the country’s insurance brokerage industry, Howden said.
He joins from rival broker Aon, where he most recently served as senior deputy director within the Tokyo-based M&A and transaction solutions team.
In his new role, Takechi will oversee a broad suite of M&A risk solutions, with a particular focus on warranty & indemnity insurance, tax contingent, and litigation risk insurance. His appointment comes with Tim Hewitt, Howden’s former Head of M&A, being appointed Head of International Solutions and Strategy for Japan.
He brings a unique “bridge” capability to the team, refined over 13 years of professional experience, including five years at the law firm ALG & Associates and a five-year tenure as market development manager at AIG.
Kentaro Tada, CEO of Howden Japan, said, “His unique position as a qualified Japanese attorney within the insurance brokerage industry strengthens our ability to deliver sophisticated M&A solutions with true local expertise.”
“Shunsuke’s deep roots and nuanced understanding of the local market will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen Howden’s M&A offering in Japan,” he added.
The move is the latest in Howden’s raid on Aon’s transaction lines teams, which includes Xianwei Lee as head of M&A, Asia; Adrian Chai and Blossom Lim as senior directors for M&A, Asia; and the additions of Jianhua Chen (director) and Rosy Wang (associate director) to the firm’s China M&A team.
