Phil Amlot has been promoted to head trade credit for Markel International, effective immediately, the global specialty insurer announced on Tuesday.

He first joined the business in 2010 and has been serving as head of underwriting for the trade credit unit, a role he has held since 2020.

In his new role, Amlot will lead the division’s long-term plan, growth, and staff development as it looks to expand its reach across London, the US, and Asia, Markel said. He reports to Carl Titterton, divisional managing director for trade credit, political risk and surety.

“Over his 16 years with us, Phil has embodied Markel’s people-first approach as both a leader and mentor, building strong relationships across the team,” Titterton said. “I’m confident his appointment places Markel Trade Credit in an excellent position to deliver continued success.”

The move follows a period of significant regional expansion and structural changes for the insurer. Since the turn of the year, the business has tapped Mark Christen to strengthen professional and financial risks claims capability in Australia and appointed Flora Mao as its first casualty underwriter in Mainland China.

This move aligns with a broader shift at Markel International, which in October announced it would restructure its operations into five regional units.
