Munich Re Specialty has appointed Angus Kench as head of commercial claims in Australia as it continues to build out its market presence in the country.
Kench will take up the role on 1 July, Chris Mackinnon, head of Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets, Australia, announced on Wednesday.
Kench joins after over 11 years with Liberty Specialty Markets, where he was most recently vice president of Asia Pacific casualty, workers’ compensation and crisis management claims.
He brings more than 34 years of insurance industry experience, having held leadership roles and board positions in organisations such as the Australian Insurance Law Association, Cerno, and Aspeck Group.
The local expansion aligns with Munich Re group’s latest five-year plan, announced in December last year, which identified specialty insurance, life and health, and Asia Pacific, particularly China, as key strategic growth areas for the business.
The appointment adds to the business’s recent build-out in Australia, with Mackinnon leading its specialty market push in the country. Part of these efforts includes plans to launch a dedicated property, construction, and engineering underwriting team in the second half of 2026, led by industry veteran Bob Algie.
