Markel Insurance has appointed Audrey Pang as senior claims adjuster in Hong Kong, effective immediately, the specialty insurer said on Thursday.

Pang is the first dedicated claims professional Markel has based in the market. She reports to Bo Yu, head of claims for Asia, and will handle claims from the insurer’s Hong Kong and China portfolio, with a focus on professional and financial risks.

She joins from Zurich Insurance Hong Kong, where she was claims lead for financial lines and cyber, managing complex claims, litigation cost management, vendor engagement and governance reporting. She previously held underwriting roles at AIG across the same lines.

“Hong Kong is a key market for Markel’s Greater China offering and having dedicated claims expertise on the ground strengthens the service we can provide as our local portfolio grows,” Yu said.

Chelsea Jiang, managing director of Greater China, added that the appointment was “a meaningful investment in the long-term growth of our Greater China business”.

The hire follows Markel’s appointment of Abbas Choker as Asia Pacific chief financial officer and its recruitment of a Shanghai-based marine risk engineer to build out Greater China capabilities.
